Exam overview
UP TGT/PGT 2026 is the largest state-level teacher recruitment in India, conducted by Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board (UPSESSB) to fill 10,000+ TGT and PGT vacancies in UP government-aided secondary and senior secondary schools. Given that Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of government schools in any Indian state, this recruitment is a massive opportunity for teaching aspirants in the state. TGT posts cover classes IX–X and PGT posts cover classes XI–XII, with salary at Pay Level 7 (Rs. 44,900/month basic) for TGT and Pay Level 8 (Rs. 47,600/month basic) for PGT plus UP state government allowances.
The selection process includes a written test for both TGT and PGT, with PGT candidates additionally attending an interview and demo lesson. The written test paper covers subject-specific content, Hindi, General Knowledge about UP, and Teaching Aptitude. UP domicile is mandatory. CTET or UPTET qualification is required for TGT posts. Aspirants should prepare NCERT and UP Board textbooks for their subject, stay updated on UP current affairs, and practice previous UPSESSB papers. The competition is extremely high given the government-job aspirant density in UP, making consistent and targeted preparation over 5–6 months essential.
Preparation tip
Start with the syllabus topics listed above, then practice timed mock tests and revise previous year questions weekly.
