Bihar STET (Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test) is conducted by BSEB (Bihar School Examination Board) to certify candidates for secondary (Class IX-X, Paper I) and senior secondary (Class XI-XII, Paper II) teaching posts in Bihar. It is no longer used for Classes I-VIII, where CTET is now mandatory from 2026. Each paper has 150 MCQs, 150 marks, 2.5 hours, no negative marking, and a lifetime-valid certificate — a prerequisite for BPSC Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) cycles. Eligibility
- Paper I (Secondary, Class IX–X): Graduation in the relevant subject with 50%+ marks and a B.Ed degree
- Paper II (Senior Secondary, Class XI–XII): Post-graduation in the relevant subject with 50%+ marks and a B.Ed degree
- Age limit: 21 to 40 years for General category, with relaxation for reserved categories as per Bihar Government norms
- Note: STET is no longer required for Classes I–VIII in Bihar — CTET has been made mandatory for those levels from 2026 onward

Exam Pattern

Exam overview
Bihar STET (Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test) is the state-level eligibility exam conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) to certify candidates for teaching posts in secondary (Class IX–X, Paper I) and senior secondary (Class XI–XII, Paper II) government and government-aided schools across Bihar. It is one of the largest-volume teaching eligibility exams in the country, historically drawing several lakh applicants each cycle, and its qualifying certificate is a mandatory prerequisite for Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) teacher recruitment drives (TRE — Teacher Recruitment Examination) at the secondary and senior secondary level. Notably, STET is no longer used for Classes I–VIII posts in Bihar, since CTET has been made the mandatory eligibility test for those levels from 2026 onward.
The most recently completed cycle, Bihar STET 2025 (Phase 1), had its written exam on 14 October 2025 (after online applications from 19 September to 5 October 2025) with results declared on 5 January 2026. BSEB has separately announced that a Phase 2 cycle of Bihar STET 2026 is planned, with the application window expected in August–September 2026, though the official notification, application dates, and exam schedule have not yet been released as of July 2026. Aspirants should regularly check bsebstet.com and bsebstet.org for the Phase 2 notification, and in the meantime prepare subject content aligned with graduation/post-graduation syllabi along with pedagogy and general knowledge sections.
